Elder M. Russell Ballard (Oct. 17): "The Trek Continues!"

The Activity:

1.     Pass out index cards to all class members

2.     Ask class members to clearly imagine three decisions/choices they have made in the last week that seem representative of the way/types of decisions they make regularly.

3.     Now for each decision, consider these questions based on Elder Ballard’s talk:

a.      Where is each decision taking you?

b.     Is that where you want to end up?

4.     On the index card, record one thing that you will do in the next month either to course correct from the decisions you have been making or to safeguard your journey and continued good choices.

Using the Activity:

I envision this activity as coming at the end of the class.  Prior to this, you have been discussing the doctrines and principles of the gospel.  So, the Spirit is there and is reaching out to those in the class who are receptive.  Now, at the end, you are asking the class members to exercise their faith and make some decisions that will serve them well in achieving their goals.  The Spirit will whisper something different to each person more than likely and that is what you want—each member to receive personal revelation for their own situation.

There are other ways to structure this activity, e.g. class members don’t need to write anything down.  I prefer having people write things down because it gives decisions a permanence and weight they otherwise don’t have.  And as with all activities of this nature, I would refrain from asking class members to share what the Spirit told them to do—that is highly personal, private communication not meant to be shared.

I hope and pray that this activity is helpful.  Please let me know, if it is.  Also, feel free to ask questions or simply let me know what you would like to see more/less of in these posts.
