Bro. Douglas D. Holmes (Apr. 18): "What Every Aaronic Priesthood Holder Needs to Understand"

The Activity:
  1. Read Paragraphs 1-5 of the talk ("Brethren, it is . . . work to do.")
  2. Tell the class that the purpose of this activity is to better understand how Father sees the Aaronic Priesthood by reviewing the powers and responsibilities of the Aaronic Priesthood.
  3. Divide the class into five groups.
  4. Assign each group one of the following scriptures to discuss
    1. D&C 13
    2. D&C 20:46-52
    3. D&C 20: 53-56
    4. D&C 84:22-27
    5. D&C 107:20
  5. Have the groups read and discuss their assigned passage.  Ask them to make a list of the powers and responsibilities as outlined in the passage and to consider exactly what each power and/or responsibility would look like.
  6. After a few minutes, come back and dicuss.
Using the Activity:

So, this is a pretty straightforward activity, but there is one slight departure from my normal M.O.  As I have been envisioning activities for these conference talks, I have felt strongly to design activities that focused on getting the class members to interact substantially with the exact words of our leaders.  However, in a couple of cases (this being one), I have felt to push the class members to consider the scriptures related to the talk.  In this case, I think it is important to see these verses as being ways the Father sees the Aaronic Priesthood.  In other words, it is more important to notice the degree to which the Father trusts and uses the Aaronic Priesthood holders to do His work than it is to compile a complete list of powers/responsibilities.

I hope that this activity is helpful to you.  God bless.
